A typical "anti slip" tile in a restaurant. Add water to grease on the tile, and it becomes slippery. Grout maintenance in a fast food restaurant can happen every 7 to 10 years, according to one of our major clients. The grout starts out gray and change to black due to grease accumulation. What is worse, when the grout fails, water goes UNDER the tile and creates a hygiene problem. Eventually, the tile fails.

Rubber mats are used to stop slip and falls on wet tiles. They are also used for people standing in one spot But, rubber gets slippery when wet. Grease tracked from the fry line to the dish pit makes the mat and the surrounding floor slippery. Then, how often is the mat lifted and cleaned underneath? This allows for that area under the mat to become unhygienic.

Can everyone see the trip hazard? SLIPS now becomes TRIPS. The floor mat that was supposed to eliminate slips, can actually create a trip hazard on its own. Level surfaces with no transitions enhances employee safety.

Grout failure everywhere. You can see the different colours of grout. The dark grout is dark because of accumulation of grease. The yellow grout is likely the re-grouted area, done in the middle of the night...again. A pin hole in the grout causes water to get underneath a tile. More organic materials (grease) and fat go into the grout. Washing the floor carries more dirty water INTO the grout.

Staff washroom areas should not be over-looked, as they need to be sanitary. Easy clean up of urine and toilet overflows is essential. Employees will clean a floor if it is easy to clean.
Another type of floor that fails in dish pits / high heat / high wet / cooler areas after 7 - 10 years are Resilient Floors. Weld failures, cracking, de-lamination are common. Patching and re-welding will not work. Doing it right the first time is recommended, and you can avoid a total kitchen remove / replace and 7-10 days of downtime in 10 years or so.

We can install these floors as renovations as well. It is preferential to remove all brick tiles first. However, we can overlay over tiles that still have integrity.
